우리들 이야기

아내는 한국에서부터 간호학을 전공하고 수술실 간호사로 일을 했습니다. 미국에 오기전에 저의 외조에 힘입어서 미국 간호사 자격증을 가지고 왔습니다. 제가 유학하는 8년 동안 때로는 2개 병원에서 일을 하면서 도와주었습니다. 저는 미용재료상(Beautify supply)가게에서 일주일에 10-20시간 정도 1년 일을 했지만, 아내가 학비와 생활비를 다 책임졌습니다. 그래서 항상 고마운 마음을 가지고 있었지요. 학교를 마치고 담임목회를 했지만 교회는 생활비를 다 책임져 줄수 있는 상황이 아니었고, 아내는 또 대학병원에서 수술실에서 일을 했습니다. 제가 상담사 자격증을 딴 때부터는 조금 생활비에 도움이 되었습니다. 2021년 12월까지 일을 한 아내는 2022년 올랜도에 와서 좀 쉬고 싶다고 했습니다. 그래서 1년 5개월을 쉬었습니다. 

저희 부부가 심방을 하거나 면담을 할 때, 많은 교회 형제 자매들이 아내에게 언제부터 일을 할 것이냐고 물었습니다. 아내는 필요하거나 준비가 되면 한다고 대답을 하곤 했습니다. 금년 5월에 아내는 일을 다시 하겠다고 했습니다. 여러가지 이유가 있겠지만, 첫째는 일주일에 하루, 그리고 비상대기(On-Call)가 되어 필요하면 하루 더 일을 하여, 교회의 사역에도 지장을 받지 않고, 자신의 재능을 계속 유지하고 싶어 합니다. 어느 기술이든지 오래 쓰지 않으면 잊게되고 특히 병원과 의술은 계속 발달하기 때문입니다. 또한 1년 5개월 심방과 사역을 하면서 어느정도 사역과 개인과 가정의 시간관리가 가능해진 것입니다. 둘째는 저희 가정의 재정적인 필요입니다. 금년 2월에 집을 샀고 딸이 대학에 가면서 필요를 느꼈습니다. 감사하게도 교회에서 저에게 주는 사례금이 풍성합니다. 그런데 집을 살때, 다운페이를 하여 여유 자금이 없고, 딸이 대학에 들어가서 기숙사비와 생활비가 필요해졌습니다.   

My wife has a Degree in nursing and worked as an Operation Room Registered Nurse. With my support, my wife became a registered nurse before we came to America. When I was in the seminary for 8 years, she supported me, working in 2 different hospitals. I worked part-time 10-20 hrs a week at a Beauty supply shop for about a year, however, my wife supported the family financially to include my tuition. That is why I was always thankful to her. After I received my degree, I was a full-time senior pastor at the church, but the church wasn't able to support our family financially, so she had to work in the University hospital operation room.  After I became a licensed counselor, I could support my family financially a bit. My wife worked till December of 2021, she told me she would like to take a break after we came to Orlando in 2022. So she didn't work for a year and 5 months. 

Many Brothers and sisters asked my wife when she would start working again whenever our couple visited their house or came to us for counseling. My wife replied that she would start working again whenever she felt needed or ready. So she said she would like to start working again in May of this year. There might be many other reasons. But first, She would like to continue her profession without interfering with church ministry once a week or work as an on-call and work one more day or so if needed. No matter what kind of skill you possess, you become dull if not use them often. Especially, in the field of medicine, it changes continuously. Also, we visited our church family members and did our ministry for a year and 5 months, now we are able to balance our ministry and personal time. Second, it is a financial reason. This February we bought a house, and my daughter went to college. Thankfully, our church's financial support is good. But we don't have any emergency savings because we paid a down payment for a house. Also, we need to pay for our daughter's college room and board.
